Look In The Right Place
Thoughts from Worry Free Island : sometimes we can be as focused as anything and still not get results because of our subconscious. I was talking to a client the other day, who was so good at sales previously, and over the last two years things got very patchy. I have worked with him and he was doing everything right, but still no sales, I must admit it started getting to me, because I had never seen anyone work so hard and not get results.
I monitored what was going on as a detached observer, and then I realised, that after the GFC, he reduced his production dept to save money because of the dramatic drop in sales at that time. Obviously things sorted themselves out and the production dept got up to full capacity.
The amazing thing is that this guy was desperate to grow the business, and went out every day to get sales, but when the production area was too busy, his subconscious was telling him that if he got this sale, it would only cause problems because production was so busy, and therefore he was sending out signals that were preventing the sale.
The conundrum was that he was saying to himself that once he got enough sales in the pipeline he would increase production, but the fact that he did not have enough production was preventing him getting sales.
The update is that he sourced some assistance from the Phillipines and in effect created a void in the production department. That is a totally different mindset, trying to get work to keep everyone busy, rather than overloading an already busy dept.
The lesson is that he was trying to find out what was wrong with his sales ability, and the problem was in a totally different department.
TIP: We sometimes look in the wrong place for the solution to our problems.
