Some sold their house, others found partners, my son realized he loved living in Maine. So I'm happy they are happy and most times that's all I want for them and me. Seeking happiness as an end might be counterproductive- as many report that constantly checking to see if they are happy actually decreases their happiness . It may be better, therefore, to seek some positive goals as ends,viz: "finding happiness in the happiness of others ", ............ and happiness will be a side-effect. The things that made my best friend happy in no way made me happy, except to see her happy. I had reminded her that things were not highly important to me a couple weeks beforehand...and not the importance (proudness and pompous statures) people expected for themselves. I even explained that my happiness comes from living a Godly life; not competing with others for anything. I'm just not that girl anymore. Instead of filling my home with clutter, I get great joy giving to others. Well, enough was enough...I called her and she immediately went on and on about how "I didn't think of her as being important enough...using condescending remarks too often...failing to consider her accomplishments, etc." then slammed the phone down before I could utter one word. (Her poor cell may need to be replaced!). Happiness is quite different between two people, especially when one's growth moves them in another direction. Being fulfilled is just as important as pursuing happiness, IMO. I believe you can only be truly fulfilled when you are authentic and compassionate towards all living beings and things.
